Softball Game Preview: El Capitan Vaqueros vs. Rancho Bernardo Broncos

The El Capitan Vaqueros will venture away from home to take on the Rancho Bernardo Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Tuesday, El Capitan came up short against Torrey Pines and fell 6-2.

Addison Higuera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ciara Bernardini made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

Meanwhile, Rancho Bernardo didn't have quite enough to beat Mater Dei Catholic on Thursday and fell 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Broncos in their meetings with the Crusaders: they've now lost three in a row.

Rancho Bernardo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellery Housand, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

El Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Rancho Bernardo, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6-1.
