Basketball Recap: Portales Takes a Loss

Portales was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Goddard Rockets. The Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rockets earlier this season, when they won 54-38.

Isaiah Mestas was the offensive standout of the match as he went 6-for-11 to rack up 20 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Castillo, who posted five points and four steals.

Portales now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Goddard, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season.

Looking ahead, Portales will face off against Artesia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Artesia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Portales likes a good challenge. As for Goddard, they will head out to challenge Lovington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
