Basketball Recap: St. Pius X Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

St. Pius X and Highland squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but St. Pius X had to settle for second. They fell 59-51 to the Highland Hornets. The Sartans' defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.

Highland was led to victory by Jesus Licon and Juan Limas. Licon shot 43% from the field on his way to 35 points and eight boards, while Limas dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Licon is becoming a predictor of Highland's success: when he posts at least 25 points the team is 5-1 (and 12-13 when he doesn't).

St. Pius X's loss dropped their record down to 22-6. As for Highland, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-14 record this season.

St. Pius X does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Highland, they and Albuquerque Academy will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played.
