Los Altos and Mountain View are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Los Altos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Los Altos came up short against Homestead and fell 6-2.
Kaylyn Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits.
On the hitting side, Makayla Mase was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Mountain View made sure to put some runs up on the board against Gunn on Thursday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 10-3 victory. Considering the Spartans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Caroline Kim made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kasey Spaulding was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Courtenay Nappo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Mountain View's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Los Altos, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Los Altos was able to grind out a solid victory over Mountain View in their previous matchup on Tuesday, winning 5-2. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
