Softball Recap: Gulf's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Gulf ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Weeki Wachee Hornets. The win was some much needed relief for the Buccaneers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Weeki Wachee's batters probably weren't too happy with Jeovanna Carter, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 19 Ks (she gave up three walks). Those 19 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Carter.

At the plate, Julianna Carter was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Adeleisi Sanchez-Ponce, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Gulf's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Weeki Wachee, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Gulf will be playing in front of their home fans against Hudson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cobras have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.18 runs per game on average), something the Buccaneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Weeki Wachee, they are taking a road trip to take on Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
