Preview: Mancos Bluejays vs. Telluride Miners
Mancos is 9-1 against Telluride since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mancos Bluejays on the road again and play against the Telluride Miners at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Mancos is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Telluride in Colorado (Mancos is ranked 75th, while Telluride is ranked 312th).
Even though Mancos has not done well against Sanford recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Mancos secured a 41-37 W over Sanford. The score was all tied up 16-16 at the break, but Mancos was the better team in the second half.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mancos to victory, but perhaps none more so than Claire Goodwin, who scored 14 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Goodwin has scored at least a third of Mancos' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teya Yeomans, who scored 11 points.
Telluride can finally bid farewell to their 27-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 36-33 victory over Dolores. The win was just what Telluride needed coming off of a 41-16 defeat in their prior match.
Mancos' record now sits at 6-2. As for Telluride, their victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Mancos against Telluride when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 52-16 win. Does Mancos have another victory up their sleeve, or will Telluride turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
