The Gaither Cowboys will face off against the East Bay Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Gaither is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Freedom a 15-0 shutout. The Cowboys haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Kacey Wilkes made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Wilkes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Chyann Herring and Carolyn Emanuel did most of the damage at the plate: Herring went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Emanuel went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Herring has posted since back in March. Lacey Giunta-Heuss was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Gaither kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, East Bay had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 21-6 margin over Spoto on Tuesday. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by eight runs or more this season.
Molly Johnson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamiira Austin, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
East Bay's win bumped their record up to 9-16. As for Gaither, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Gaither might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from East Bay in their previous meeting back in February of 2019. Can the Cowboys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
