Basketball Recap: Albert Gooden Iii Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Greenfield-Central

Greenfield-Central typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Lawrence Central proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Greenfield-Central Cougars by a score of 79-70. The win was all the more spectacular given the Bears' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Cougars are ranked seventh).

Lawrence Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Albert Gooden iii led the charge by going 6-for-11 en route to 21 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Gooden iii a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Doron Harris, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 20 points and five boards.

Loss or not, Greenfield-Central got some senior leadership from Braylon Mullins and Boston Willard. Mullins went 10-for-21 to rack up 28 points and six rebounds, while Willard dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists. That was a full 40% of Greenfield-Central's points, marking the third time in a row Mullins has posted more than a third of the team's points. Michael Johnson was another key player, putting up 11 points and six boards.

Lawrence Central now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Greenfield-Central, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 18-3.
