Softball Recap: Suwannee Comes Up Short

Suwannee easily dispatched Hamilton County last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Suwannee Bulldogs fell just short of the Lafayette Hornets by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Suwannee saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayden Green, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Maylee Gabey was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Even though they lost, Suwannee hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post two or more strikeouts.

The defeat snapped Suwannee's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-5 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.

Coming up, Suwannee will welcome Branford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Branford's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Suwannee's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lafayette, they will venture away from home to face off against Bell at 7:00 p.m. on March 27th.
