Softball Preview: Coalfield Yellow Jackets vs. Sunbright Tigers

Coalfield is 10-0 against Sunbright since April of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Coalfield Yellow Jackets will be staying on the road to face off against the Sunbright Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Thursday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Coalfield had to settle for a 6-5 defeat against Rockwood.

Halle Wilson put in work no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Isabella McDaniel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last five games she's played. Taylor Chamblee was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Coalfield didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with ten strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rockwood only tossed three.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Sunbright's offense. They lost 19-0 to Wartburg Central on Thursday. Sunbright has struggled against Wartburg Central recently, as their contest on Thursday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Sunbright saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braelyn Moss, who went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run.

Coalfield's record now sits at 4-11. As for Sunbright, their record now sits at 6-8.
