Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Alexander's 16th in Last 18 Outings

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Alexander had no problem doing just that on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lovejoy Wildcats a 15-0 shutout. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 19 games by eight runs or more this season.

Ebbie Simmons made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September.

In other batting news, Lulu Berry was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Townsend, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Alexander hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in seven consecutive contests.

Alexander is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lovejoy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.

Alexander will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair will be back at it again later today.
