Softball Recap: Bullitt East's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Bullitt East had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Highlands Bluebirds. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by just one run.

Mollie Johnston made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carly Bryant, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was June Pile, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Bullitt East's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Highlands, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5-1 record this season.

Bullitt East will face off against Russell at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.25 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Highlands, they will venture away from home to challenge Boyd County at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday.
