Football Recap: Holy Cross Skates Past St. Dominic with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Holy Cross had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over the St. Dominic Bayhawks. Considering the Knights have won three games by more than 29 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Madden Martinez looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 118 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in one TD on the ground. His passing game has become a key predictor of Holy Cross' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. The Knights also got a significant boost from Antoine Williams, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

The win (which was Holy Cross' third in a row) raised their record to 6-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.3 points on average over those games. As for St. Dominic, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Coming up, Holy Cross will square off against Christ the King at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Williams and Isaiah Smith. St. Dominic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
