Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Troup County

Troup County waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Heard County Braves by a score of 61-54. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Leading Troup County to victory were Sheniyah Philpot and Raygen Godfrey. Philpot went 9 of 19 on her way to 25 points and six steals, while Godfrey almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Philpot's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Troup County was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Troup County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Heard County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Troup County Tigers duke it out with the Trinity Christian Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Troup County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Heard County, they will take on Lithia Springs in a tournament on Thursday.
