Softball Recap: Berea Pirates vs. Model Patriots
Berea extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-7 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Model Patriots. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 14-9.
As for Model, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.
For Model's part, Piper Moore was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Moore was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Rylli Hunt was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Josie Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berea will venture away from home to challenge McCreary Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Model, they will face off against Jackson County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
