Football Recap: North Union Drops Highest Score of Season Against Urbana + How To Watch

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Union). They enjoyed a cozy 46-27 win over the Urbana Hillclimbers on Friday. The Wildcats pushed the score to 40-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Hillclimbers cut but never quite recovered from.

North Union's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nick Vanhoose led the charge by rushing for 148 yards and two TDs while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards Vanhoose has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Griffin Osborne, who rushed for 150 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.4 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: North Union was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 421 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 164 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

North Union didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Xavier Gruber and Wyatt Arver. Gruber got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

North Union now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Urbana, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Union will host Indian Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' defense better be ready for this one: the Lakers have averaged an impressive 32.2 points per game this season. As for Urbana, they will welcome London at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Raiders' defense has only allowed 10.6 points per game this season, so the Hillclimbers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
