Football Recap: Mountain Island Charter Skates Past West Caldwell with Ease

Mountain Island Charter never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against West Caldwell on Friday. They really took it to the Warriors for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-22 victory. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-8.

Aamir Gilcreast had a dynamite game, rushing for 228 yards and four TDs on only 14 carries. Those four rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mountain Island Charter was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 350 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Caldwell only rushed for 186 rushing yards.

Another reason for the win was Mountain Island Charter's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 13 sacks. Jason Eaton led the group effort, picking up five of those sacks all by himself. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one sack the last 11 times he's played. Mountain Island Charter received some extra help from Ethan Cuadra, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

West Caldwell's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danial Bloom, who rushed for 105 yards.

The win got Mountain Island Charter back to even at 1-1. As for West Caldwell, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Mountain Island Charter is taking a road trip to challenge Christ the King at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Caldwell, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Chase at 7:30 p.m. on the 19th.
