Basketball Recap: Highlands' Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Highlands had won three straight games and Elaya Walker did her part to make it four on Tuesday. Everything went the Highlands Owls' way against the Seguin Matadors as the Highlands Owls made off with a 53-32 victory thanks in part to Walker, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game.

Savannah Gaskin was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards. What's more, she also posted a 75% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in November of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Seguin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rebeka Wilke posted 11 points and five rebounds. Wilke has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Faith Franklin, who scored three points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Highlands now has a winning record of 18-17. As for Seguin, their loss dropped their record down to 15-20.

Coming up, Highlands will face off against MacArthur at 7:30 p.m. on February 11th. MacArthur will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Highlands surely won't give up without a fight. Seguin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
