            Baseball Preview: Berthoud Spartans vs. Timnath Cubs        
        
		
        
        
            For the second straight game, Berthoud will face off against Timnath. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Cubs  at 4:00  p.m.  on Monday. Berthoud will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
While Berthoud's  win against Timnath wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  4-2  victory over the Cubs  on Saturday.
 Wyatt Barmes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned  (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Berthoud's success: when he posts  at  least eight  strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

 At the plate, Berthoud saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Elisha Mosher, who  went 2-for-4 with two  RBI. Those  two  hits gave  Mosher a new career-high.  Gavin Kirk also deserves some recognition as  he  hit his first  double of the season.
 Timnath dropped their record down to 6-7 with the  loss, which was their third straight  at home. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the  defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Berthoud,  the  win  got them back to even at 6-6.
