Recap: Arlington Colts vs. Martin Warriors
If The Arlington Colts were riding high off their 45-19 takedown of the Lamar Vikings last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Arlington had to suffer through a rough 58-21 loss at the hands of Martin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Arlington in their matchups with Martin: they've now lost five in a row.
Arlington's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Drelon Burton, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Burton's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamar Burton, who rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Brooks Briggance was his usual excellent self, rushing for 210 yards on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 231 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. Daylon Cobb was another key contributor, gaining 207 total yards.
Arlington's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Martin, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Arlington will head out on the road to face off against Sam Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sam Houston is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Martin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bowie at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bowie will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
