Baseball Recap: Herscher Extends Winning Streak to Five

Herscher came tearing into Saturday's match with four straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Prairie Central Hawks a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won 12 contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Herscher got a great performance from Reed Laird as he didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Laird has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cam Baker, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Gaige Brown was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Herscher pushed their record up to 23-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Prairie Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.

Herscher wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-6 win against Manteno on the 5th. As for Prairie Central, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-1 loss against Illinois Valley Central on the 5th.
