Cambridge Academy falls despite strong effort from Jillian Mapes

Recap: Cambridge Academy Cougars vs. Curtis Baptist Crusaders

The Cambridge Academy Cougars were the 36-29 winner over the Curtis Baptist Crusaders when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Cambridge Academy fell 52-39 to Curtis Baptist on Tuesday. Cambridge Academy found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up nine fewer assists than your opponent.

When it comes to explaining why Cambridge Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jillian Mapes. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Alex Cockrell was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.

Curtis Baptist found their leader in underclassman Maci Butler, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Butler is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyla Robinson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two blocks.

Cambridge Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Curtis Baptist, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.

Cambridge Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Easley HomeSchool at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Curtis Baptist, they will head out on the road to square off against Jefferson Davis Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
