Basketball Game Preview: Severna Park Falcons vs. Laurel Spartans

The Severna Park Falcons will square off against the Laurel Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.

On Friday, Severna Park strolled past Chesapeake with points to spare, taking the game 55-39. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Cougars are ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Laurel got the win against Bladensburg on Thursday by a conclusive 87-61. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 23 points or more this season.

Laurel's win came from a few key players Severna Park will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Christian Brown, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Taylor, who posted 21 points and four steals.

Laurel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Severna Park's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Laurel, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.

Severna Park was able to grind out a solid win over Laurel when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 65-56. Does Severna Park have another victory up their sleeve, or will Laurel turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
