Basketball Recap: San Elizario Comes Up Short

San Elizario lost against Clint back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The San Elizario Eagles were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 47-46 to the Clint Lions. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, San Elizario saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jazlyn Hernandez went 7 for 14 en route to 27 points. That was a full 58.7% of San Elizario's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabellla Hidalgo, who put up seven points in addition to 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Even though they lost, San Elizario smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Clint's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anabella Portillo, who scored 14 points. Davana Carrasco was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

San Elizario's loss dropped their record down to 11-17. As for Clint, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

San Elizario has already played their next game, a 40-31 defeat against Mountain View on the 28th. As for Clint, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-31 loss against Riverside on the 28th.
