Baseball Game Preview: South Range Raiders vs. Greenfield Knights

The South Range Raiders will square off against the Greenfield Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (South Range 3.8, Greenfield 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

South Range came out on top against Ursuline on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Raiders narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Fighting Irish 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since May 7, 2024.

Meanwhile, Greenfield hadn't done well against John Paul II Catholic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Knights won by a run and slipped past the Saints 6-5.

Simon Quinn made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tristan Stancil, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

Greenfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John Paul II Catholic only posted an OBP of .355.

Greenfield's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for South Range, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
