Baseball Recap: Lafayette Makes It Seven in a Row on the Road

Starkville typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Lafayette proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Yellowjackets 6-4. That's two games straight that the Commodores have won by exactly two runs.

The team relied heavily on Landon Cobbs, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Levi Hamm, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Lafayette's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Starkville, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-10.

Coming up, Lafayette will host South Panola at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Commodores surely won't give up without a fight. As for Starkville, they are taking a road trip to square off against Hillcrest at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
