League recap: Chandler bests Buena in blowout

I Section I recap September 10, 2013

Chandler took down Buena 65-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Bryce Perkins threw for 155 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 40 yards in the win.

Highland and Mesa played the closest game in I Section I this week, with Highland eventually emerging with a 7-3 victory. Blake Young threw for 126 yards and ran for 31 yards during the win.

Austin Nightingale was a passing and rushing force as Perry bested O'Connor. He completed 15 passes for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 94 yards. Nightingale's favorite target this week was Alec Monte, who caught 6 passes for 95 yards.

Monte was the best receiver in the league this week as the Pumas topped the Eagles. Lane Veach helped Perry's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 39 yards.

Perkins put up the best numbers in passing as the Wolves topped the Colts. Perkins' favorite target this week was Mitch McCulley, who caught 4 passes for 53 yards.

Chris Brewster made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Hawks beat the Jackrabbits. The 5-foot-11 senior.

Nightingale was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate Roy Dossey added to the ground attack by rushing for 62 yards.

Leading I Section I in both passing and receiving yards, Basha's Zach Werlinger and Rajhan Meriwether have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Werlinger has thrown for 583 yards this season, while Meriwether has 7 catches for 192 yards. Highland's Ryan McCord leads the league in rushing yards with 245.

Chandler led the league in scoring this week by notching 65 points on Buena. Perkins in the win.
