Baseball Game Preview: Fenwick Friars vs. Morgan Park Mustangs

The Fenwick Friars will square off against the Morgan Park Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Fenwick took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Berwyn/Cicero Morton 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Friars have posted since May 10, 2024.

Fenwick got a great performance from Matt Purta as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Josh Morgan was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was JJ Obaldo, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Fenwick hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berwyn/Cicero Morton struck out nine times.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Morgan Park sidestepped Leo for a 5-4 win.

The victory got Morgan Park back to even at 2-2-1. As for Fenwick, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.

Everything went Fenwick's way against Morgan Park in their previous matchup back in March of 2017, as Fenwick made off with a 7-1 victory. Will the Friars repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
