Softball Preview: St. Anthony Yellowjackets vs. St. Joseph Flyers
The St. Anthony Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the St. Joseph Flyers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, St. Anthony sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over TMI-Episcopal. The victory was just what St. Anthony needed coming off of a 15-0 defeat in their prior game.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph earned a 7-4 win over Hyde Park on Tuesday. The victory was just what St. Joseph needed coming off of an 11-2 loss in their prior match.
Shayne Meismer made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). Meismer has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Meismer was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Elizabeth Arnecke was incredible, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Sofia Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
