Softball Recap: Momence Comes Up Short

Momence extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-16 in the process. They fell 12-8 to the Illinois Lutheran Chargers. If the Momence Athletics were looking for revenge after losing 11-2 to the Chargers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Delilah Latham was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Sydnee Vanswol was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

As for Illinois Lutheran, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

On Illinois Lutheran's side, Lola Spada made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Spada has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emma Nagle and Mia Jacobucci did most of the damage at the plate: Nagle went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Jacobucci got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Raya Harris, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Coming up, Illinois Lutheran will welcome Heritage Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Momence will be paying especially close attention to the Chargers' contest: after the Chargers face off against the Defenders, they'll take on Momence again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
