Moses Lake had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They breezed past the Oak Harbor Wildcats to the tune of 49-6. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 92nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brady Jay had a dynamite game, throwing for 473 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 76.6% of his passes, and also rushing for 65 yards on only five carries. Those 473 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Grant Smith was another key player, picking up 142 receiving yards and three scores.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Moses Lake's defense and their three sacks. Treyson Knowles was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. John Rainey was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 18 total tackles.

Despite the loss, Oak Harbor still got an impressive performance from Joseph Lewis, who rushed for 82 yards and one TD on only ten carries.

Coming up, Moses Lake will face off against North Creek at 3:00 p.m. on the 13th. As for Oak Harbor, they will take on Ferndale at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. This will be the Wildcats' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
