Basketball Recap: Massena Takes a Loss

Massena and Franklin Academy squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Massena had to settle for second. They fell to the Franklin Academy Huskies 63-59. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 483rd, while the Huskies are ranked 166th).

When it comes to explaining why Massena lost, don't look at Chris Boyea. Despite the final result, he went 9-for-15 on his way to 23 points and seven rebounds. Those 23 points gave Boyea a new career-high. Taylor Mitchell was another key player, putting up 17 points and five boards.

It was another big night for Brad Poupore, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 24 points for Franklin Academy. Another player making a difference was Cam Keating, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

Massena has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. The win (which was Franklin Academy's eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

Massena does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Franklin Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-52 victory against Lisbon Central on the 4th.
