Basketball Recap: Lake Minneola Starts Season with Win at Home

Lake Minneola took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Davenport Broncos 25-22. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since November 18, 2024.

Lake Minneola's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaitlyn Humphreys, who posted eight points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelin Bailey, who earned six points and four steals.

Davenport's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aurimar Rivera, who scored nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Davenport and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Lake Minneola won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Umatilla at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Davenport, they will head out to face off against Avon Park at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
