            Baseball Recap: St. David Tigers vs. Valley Union Blue Devils        
        
		
        
        
            St. David came out on top against Valley Union  on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Tigers took their   matchup against the Blue Devils   8-3. This was a revenge game for the Tigers: when they faced off against the Blue Devils  last Thursday, they had to take a  15-12  defeat.

 Owen Judd made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound,   striking out nine batters over  6.1 innings while giving up just one earned  (and two unearned) runs off   seven  hits. He is becoming a predictor of St. David's success: when he allows at  most three  earned runs the team is 5-2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Judd was also solid in the batter's box,  going 2-for-4 with two  RBI and one  double.
 Judd wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Cooper Merrill, who  went 1-for-3 with one  run and one  double.  Grant Haymore was another,  going 1-for-2 with three  RBI.
St. David's victory was  their fourth straight on the road, which  pushed their record up to 9-8-1. Those  road  wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Union, their  loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 8-5.
 Looking ahead, St. David will head out to  face off against Patagonia  at 3:45  p.m.  on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Lobos at the right time seeing as the Lobos are stuck on  a  13-game losing streak. As for Valley Union, they will welcome Fort Thomas  at 3:45  p.m.  on Thursday.
