Softball Recap: University Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact University can now relate to. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jefferson Cougars on Saturday. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 11-8.

University saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Elza, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for University and nudges their season record down to 25-7-1. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 28-3 Cabell Midland (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 86.5% over those games). As for Jefferson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 24-5.

University does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jefferson, they will face off against Cabell Midland at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Knights will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
