Recap: Horizon Huskies vs. Casa Grande Cougars
The Horizon Huskies were the 72-65 winner over the Casa Grande Cougars when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Horizon took a 61-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Casa Grande on Monday. Horizon just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Horizon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Hayes, who scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hayes has scored all season. Gavin Henss was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Horizon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Casa Grande found their leader in underclassman Aveon Williams, who scored 27 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Williams hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Dewayne Haygood, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds.
Horizon has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Casa Grande, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Horizon will take on Cactus Shadows at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cactus Shadows presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Horizon in Arizona (Cactus Shadows is ranked 57th, while Horizon is ranked 203rd). As for Casa Grande, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Williams Field at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
