Soccer Game Preview: Pleasant Grove vs. Elk Grove

The Pleasant Grove Eagles will head out to face off against the Elk Grove Thundering Herd at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pleasant Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.3 goals per game this season.

Pleasant Grove's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Monterey Trail with a sharp 3-0 win. The Eagles better thank their lucky stars for the performance of Julian Sevilla, as he scored every single goal for his team.

Meanwhile, Elk Grove hadn't done well against Franklin recently (they were 0-8-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Elk Grove sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Franklin. The win was all the more spectacular given the Thundering Herd's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 648th, while the Wildcats are ranked ninth).

Elk Grove pushed their record up to 6-9-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 11 goals over those four contests. As for Pleasant Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Pleasant Grove came up short against Elk Grove in their previous matchup back in January, falling 3-1. Can Pleasant Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
