Baseball Game Preview: Loomis Chaffee School Pelicans vs. Westminster School Martlets

The Loomis Chaffee School Pelicans will challenge the Westminster School Martlets at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Loomis Chaffee School is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Loomis Chaffee School is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since March 31st on Wednesday. They came up short against Avon Old Farms, falling 13-5.

Meanwhile, Westminster School came out on top against Kent School on Wednesday by a score of 4-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Martlets haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Zachary Jainchill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jake Pleau, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Westminster School is undefeated when Pleau posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Connor Lytle, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

The victory got Westminster School back to even at 7-7. As for Loomis Chaffee School, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Loomis Chaffee School skirted past Westminster School 9-8 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Pelicans repeat their success, or do the Martlets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
