Sumner hasn't had much luck against Rogers recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Rogers will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Sumner extended their winning streak to three on Monday. Everything went the Spartans' way against South Kitsap as they made off with a 21-2 victory. The matchup marked the Spartans' most dominant win of the season.
Josslyn Sorensen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Sorensen was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Riley Meyers was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Emma Hixon, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Sumner was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, while Rogers put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Curtis. The Rams blew past the Vikings 10-0.
The team relied heavily on Madison Adair (2026), who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Payton Walling (2027) was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Sumner's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Rogers, their win bumped their record up to 14-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sumner has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Rogers struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
