The Geneva Eagles will take on the Wickliffe Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Geneva is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Friday just wasn't the day for Geneva's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Berkshire on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Geneva saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kailyn Cerjan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Wickliffe came into Friday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Madison on Friday as they made off with an 11-3 win.
Leigha Blazetic spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Amanda Peklay and Audrey Musgrave did most of the damage at the plate: Peklay went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Musgrave went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most hits Musgrave has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Abby Sulyok, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Wickliffe hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison struck out 11 times.
Wickliffe's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Geneva, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Geneva has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wickliffe struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Geneva beat Wickliffe 7-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
