Basketball Recap: Golden Valley Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

There's no place like home for Golden Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They strolled past the Castaic Coyotes with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 68-50. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while the Coyotes are ranked 849th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Golden Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Donovan Webb, who posted 17 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Webb has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Alex Villejo, who put up 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Golden Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

Castaic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jack Shand, who earned 15 points. Wesley Tucker was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Golden Valley pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Castaic, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.

Golden Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-39 victory against Hart on the 24th. Castaic has also already played their next game, a 78-42 defeat against Valencia on the 24th.
