Basketball Recap: Joe Salvo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fowler over Limon

If Fowler was riding high fresh off their 57-24 takedown of Las Animas on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fowler Grizzlies fell 44-37 to the Limon Badgers on Saturday. The Grizzlies haven't had much luck with the Badgers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Several Grizzlies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joe Salvo, who posted seven points and five rebounds. Hagen McCuistion was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Fowler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Limon can attribute much of their success to Keagan Mellott, who went 6-for-10 en route to 14 points and eight boards. Mellott is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 47% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Jaklich, who had six points and four steals.

Fowler's record is now 12-6. As for Limon, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9.

Fowler didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-41 victory against Swallows Charter Academy on the 18th. As for Limon, they have also already played their next contest, a 59-42 defeat against Stratton on the 21st.
