Softball Game Preview: Smithtown West vs. East Islip Redmen

Smithtown West and East Islip are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. Smithtown West will host East Islip at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Smithtown West gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Centereach. Smithtown West hasn't had any issues with Centereach recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Erin McDaid made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Isabella Russo was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Guttieri, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Smithtown West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, East Islip had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Clippers as they made off with an 8-1 win. Eight seems to be a good number for the Redmen as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Smithtown West now has a winning record of 8-7. As for East Islip, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Everything went Smithtown West's way against East Islip in their previous meeting back in April, as Smithtown West made off with a 13-5 victory. Does Smithtown West have another victory up their sleeve, or will East Islip turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
