Soccer Game Preview: San Rafael vs. Benicia

The San Rafael Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Benicia Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Rafael's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for San Rafael's offense. They came up short against Archie Williams on Wednesday, falling 5-0. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 689th, while the Peregrine Falcons are ranked 234th).

Meanwhile, Benicia's game on Tuesday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They skirted past Alhambra 3-2. The Panthers better thank their lucky stars for the performance of Thomas Jouvenot-Sells, as he scored every single goal for his team.

San Rafael's loss dropped their record down to 4-9-3. As for Benicia, their win bumped their record up to 9-3-3.

San Rafael took their victory against Benicia in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Rafael since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
