Soccer Game Preview: Eastern Mennonite vs. The Covenant

Eastern Mennonite is 1-9 against The Covenant since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Flames will take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Eastern Mennonite comes in on seven and The Covenant on 11.

Eastern Mennonite can't be too worried about heading out to take on The Covenant: they just beat North Cross at home, who had been dominant on their own pitch up to that point. The Flames walked away with a 3-1 win over the Raiders on Wednesday.

Bri Showalter and Lily Kratz scored all three of Eastern Mennonite's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 35 goals.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last match, The Covenant made sure to put some goals up on the board against Virginia Episcopal School on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Bishops. The Covenant's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last six games.

The Covenant pushed their record up to 14-1-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those seven contests. As for Eastern Mennonite, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1-1.

Eastern Mennonite came up short against The Covenant in their previous matchup back in April, falling 3-1. Can the Flames avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
