Basketball Recap: Paden Comes Up Short

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Paden and Varnum meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Pirates lost 73-48 to the Whippets. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Whippets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2025.

Paden has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Varnum, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-3.

Paden and Varnum should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings. The Pirates will square off against Oilton at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (197 vs. 466). Meanwhile, Varnum (ranked 101st) will meet Sasakwa (ranked 275th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
