Softball Recap: Avella Comes Up Short

Avella managed to slip by California the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Avella Eagles came up short against the California Trojans on Tuesday, falling 13-6. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Emily Buel put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Haleigh Rush made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Taylor Shirley, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Avella's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for California, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avella will challenge Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for California, they will face off against West Greene at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
