Preview: South Brunswick Cougars vs. Topsail Pirates

Two dominant guards in Jaelon Johnson and Rhett Britt are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The South Brunswick Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Topsail Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with ten consecutive losses for South Brunswick and four for Topsail.

Last Tuesday, South Brunswick took a serious blow against Laney, falling 71-33. While losing is never fun, South Brunswick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 497th, while Laney is ranked 36th).

Despite their loss, South Brunswick saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Johnson, who scored ten points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Johnson hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.

Meanwhile, Topsail had to suffer through a rough 74-35 loss at the hands of Hoggard. Topsail was down 59-29 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

South Brunswick has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 15 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Topsail, they dropped their record down to 5-15 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.

South Brunswick lost to Topsail at home by a decisive 65-48 margin in their previous matchup back in January. Will South Brunswick have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other basketball content.
