Baseball Game Preview: Eagan Wildcats vs. Rosemount Irish

Eagan and Rosemount are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Irish at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Eagan 3.9, Rosemount 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Eagan turned things around against Lakeville South on Monday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Cougars. The game was the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Cougars on their field since April 14, 2023.

Brody Illa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. Eagan is 2-1 when Illa allows three or fewer earned runs, but 5-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Brandon Lunneborg was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Theo King was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rosemount, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Farmington on Wednesday, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Irish have posted since May 28, 2024.

Rosemount is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Eagan, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.

Eagan came out on top in a nail-biter against Rosemount in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Irish have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
