Basketball Game Preview: Emerson Mavericks vs. Independence Knights

The Emerson Mavericks will challenge the Independence Knights at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Emerson will be strutting in after a win while Independence will be coming in after a loss.

Emerson took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Frisco 41-13. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 458th, while the Raccoons are ranked 977th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Independence's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 48-41 to Heritage.

Emerson pushed their record up to 14-13 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.7 points per game. As for Independence, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.

Emerson beat Independence 48-37 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Does Emerson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Independence turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
